So Ubuntu thinks they are clever eliminating X support from Gnome, a bad move, but I use Mate anyway so won't affect me, and I've built it from scratch before so if they decided to screw it as well, that's an option.

NVidia does definitely not just push AI code to Linux, I would bet everything I own that they are using it on their proprietary Windows drivers, too.

This is not the app I use it for more often things like virt-manager or network-manager but it is functionality I need. And then combine that with the fact that I have Intel graphics which are supported by the kernel mode-setting server means I get efficiency that probably exceeds Wayland anyway as it avoids a lot of unnecessary kernel/userland transitions.
